‘Dual-Purpose’ public commission project initiated by Sculpture Placement Group in collaboration with Platform and Blairtummock Housing Association.
The sculpture is made with two purposes in mind. Firstly as an exhibition at Platform Easterhouse and secondly for its permanent home at Blaritummock Housing Association redeveloped courtyard for a minimum of 10 years.
Like a roof, the fountain collects rain water on its top tier wherefrom it trickles onto the lowering tiers and imitates the running water of a fountain. The fountain only ‘works’ in the rain and at the base the water drains away to feed flower beds which contain a flora that specifically thrives in saturated soil. When the skye is clear and the sun comes out rays penetrating the glass will break into scattered rainbows that changes with the movement of the sun.
