Silfurberg stone, Peltier cooling plate, Heat sink, Fan.

Wiolators: Reykjavík Edition, Reykjavik Art Museum, IS

The Silfurberg, or Iceland Spar, is a particular crystal found in the mountains

of Iceland. It is known for its ability in demonstrating the polarization of light

and was used by the vikings as a navigation stone. However it is no longer

legal to excavate them from here, and the crystals sold in the Icelandic

souvenir shops are thus imported from Central America.

The cooling device is constantly keeping the crystal below freezing which

allow the moist in the surrounding air to condense on its side and slowly

freeze around the crystal. The more people visiting the museum the more

ice accumulates around the crystal.
